The Walks for Gaza and Syria

The experiences of being out in South America and Africa was some of the best experiences, i certainly felt so blessed to have had the chance to help in such away i could never have imagined.  Following these trips i wanted to replicate something closer to home, so i contacted local charities and came across Muslim Hands UK.

Muslim Hands UK were very approachable and i read through what they were about and how they help the less fortunate families all over the world and hold charity events in the UK, so i decided to be come a volunteer for them.

I once read a message ‘when God blesses you financially, don’t raise your standard of living, raise your standard of giving’.  I thought i am blessed and i wanted to do more charitably and not just by helping financially but to be involved and be part of a change.

Muslim Hands had given me the perfect opportunity to give back, fulfil obligations as a Muslim and to be part of those less fortunate in my own country and in my own hometown, who may not be as lucky as me, may not have a roof over their head or fresh food everyday.  From simply registering online to become a volunteer, i almost instantaneously became part of the group, part of the team to make a change and was updated on the latest events and opportunities of getting involved and reaching out to those who needed the support the most.

One event i was lucky enough to have the opportunity of being a part of and involved in were the Winter Walks for Gaza.  I took part in one of the walks which was close to home in my hometown Birmingham, but also volunteered to support and hep setting up and preparing for the same event up and down the country, including Leicester, Manchester and London.  The days were cold and Manchester in particular i remember, was the most challenging of them all due to the heavy snow and bad weather conditions.  All i knew is that it was all for a good cause, an opportunity i had been given, for me to help raise money and accept donations given from the general public, with the same heart of wanting to help those less fortunate and being part of being able to help aid emergency relief such as food, shelter, medication and much more for suffering families and communities in Gaza.

I shall continue to offer support, time and ideas to Muslim Hands because the work behind the scenes, which i have witnessed firsthand is a credit to the charity.
